Glucosamine, a naturally occurring amino sugar in the body and some foods is a foundational component in the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) like Hyaluronic Acid, Keratan Sulfate, and Chondroitin Sulfate. These GAGs bind with proteins to form proteoglycans, which are crucial for building articular cartilage. Osteoarthritis can develop when cartilage in a joint degenerates. Glucosamine also supports the development of tendons, ligaments, nails, and other connective tissues. Supplementing with Glucosamine Sulfate increases glucosamine levels, supporting cartilage repair and production. Additionally, it activates chondrocytes within the cartilage to produce GAGs and proteoglycans.
Chondroitin Sulfate, another GAG found in connective tissue, especially articular cartilage, provides material for proteoglycans. It protects healthy cartilage from deterioration by inhibiting the Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) enzyme, which breaks down proteoglycans.
Combining Glucosamine with Chondroitin Sulfate enhances efficacy, with data showing significant benefits in osteoarthritis cases, addressing symptoms and potentially slowing disease progression. This combination can prevent osteoarthritis in healthy adults and is as effective as NSAIDs for osteoarthritic pain with better tolerability. It also aids in repairing musculoskeletal soft tissue injuries, such as strains in tendons or ligaments.

- 250/200 mg tablets: 1–2 tablets, three times a day. Dosage adjustments may be needed based on individual response and body weight. After 60 days, doses may be reduced for individual needs and cost savings.
- Below 54 kg: 1000 mg Glucosamine Sulfate and 800 mg Chondroitin Sulfate daily.
- 54–91 kg: 1500 mg Glucosamine Sulfate and 1200 mg Chondroitin Sulfate daily.
- Above 91 kg: 2000 mg Glucosamine Sulfate and 1600 mg Chondroitin Sulfate daily.
- 750/600 mg tablets: 1 tablet twice daily or as directed by a physician.

No significant interactions have been reported between Glucosamine and Chondroitin and other common drug categories like antibiotics, antidepressants, antihypertensives, nitrates, antiarrhythmics, anxiolytics, hypoglycemics, antisecretives, and anti-asthmatics. Chondroitin may enhance the blood-thinning effects of anticoagulants like Warfarin and Heparin.
